Louis V. Aronson founded the Ronson Lighter Company in 1886 in New York City under the name Art Metal Works. The company relocated to Newark, New Jersey in the following year. In the 1930s, Ronson introduced a range of lighters that were designed specifically for women. These included cigarette cases, compacts, unique designs, and embellishments such as rhinestones.
